Membership in the Foundation

Any foundation, government, corporation, partnership, joint venture, institution, or individual including law and accounting firms, and consulting groups interested in helping to further the mission of the Foundation is invited to become a member of the World Foundation for Smart Communities. Members of the Foundation will be comprised of (1) underwriters, those donating $50,000 or over a three year period; (2) sponsors, those providing an initial three-year-contribution of $30,000 and (3) associates whose annual contribution shall be $5,000. After the initial thirty members, which will represent the founding board, other members may join at any time during the course of a year at a pro-rated annual membership rate. The Foundation accepts memberships from cities, counties and community organizations worldwide. The membership cost is based upon the size of the organization, and whether they are a for-profit or non-profit corporation. In addition to underwriters and sponsors of the Foundation who shall be invited to become trustees, with full voting rights, only those members nominated by the board and elected to the board shall bear responsibility for the operations of the Foundation. (All contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible in the U.S. under U.S. tax law, although offices established elsewhere in the world may provide opportunity for tax deductibility).

In principle, a general meeting of members of the Foundation will be held at least once each year rotating among Europe, Asia and the Americas. These by-laws may be changed from time to time or amended, but only by the full members of the Foundation, who also have a right to submit any proposal for a general meeting of the membership. Changes in the by-laws will require a two-thirds majority of those present and voting at a regularly scheduled general meeting.
