By Reader Expertise or Professional Role Like a manual, this document is not intended to be read from beginning to end. While building a smart community is a challenging and complex process, not everyone will need to play every rolesome will specialize, by interest and skill, in the technical aspects; others will be more interested in finance or public policy. With this in mind, the Implementation Guide is organized and annotated so that the reader can pick and choose the sections that apply to their particular interest, with navigational aides to help you do that. The icon bar on the side of many of the content pages is designed as a navigational guide. The four icons to the right of the section head represent four of the potential reader profiles for which this Guide was developed. |

By Interest in The Smart CommunityTransformation Process In addition to looking at the Implementation Guide depending on your profession or role in the community, another way to navigate the Implementation Guidebook depends on your interest in the different dimensions of the smart community transformation process. We’ve developed four icons which represent what we believe are the four dimensions of smart community transformation. (This model is explained in detail in Section B.) If an aspect of smart community transformation is covered in a section, the icon for the relevant dimension(s) will appear to the left of the section head in the header for that section. For example, perhaps you are interested in how the institutions in a community can be involved, or how they might be affected in the process of a community becoming “smart”. You would look for the sections marked by the icon for “Institutional Infrastructures.” |
